Around here these days, I’m…
wishing we were still at the beach. Over Memorial Day weekend we took an extended weekend trip to the beach – traveling with my parents and my aunt and uncle. We had such a great time, and the only thing that would’ve made it better is if my brother and his wife could have joined us! They weren’t able to come this time, but I’m hoping that next time, they will get to be there! We played in the sand (Sissy loved her first time at the beach!), and we ate lots and lots of yummy seafood!
spending time outside. It has definitely started to feel like summer here, but when the temps are tolerable, we have been heading outside, and our favorite thing to do is spend summer evenings out on the patio with daddy on the grill and the kids playing in the water! We all love when daddy is home!
recovering from our recent bowling trip. We recently decided that we would take our kids bowling again! Since when does it cost $75 to take a family of five bowling? Is that not crazy? The shoes and socks were included in that price, but the nachos were not. In addition to almost having a heart attack over the cost of this activity, hubby and I are also dealing with aches and pains from over-exerting ourselves while bowling on lane #9. Yes, we go to the gym some…and we stay fairly active with our kids…but I think we may have used some muscle groups that are typically being ignored. Needless to say, I know where the Motrin is, and I’m not afraid to use it.
knocking things off our bucket list. I keep a local bucket list – a short list of places we want to visit/restaurants we want to try/things we want to do that are right here within our neck of the woods…or not too, too far away, and recently, we’ve crossed a few things off our list. One of the things we wanted to do was grab treats at Bar Cocoa – a little dessert spot located in the Ritz Carlton hotel here in the Charlotte area, so after bowling, we decided to walk over that way and grab some dessert there – yes, with our three kids. Now before you start thinking how fancy schmancy that sounds, let me just say, the bowling cost $75, and the chocolate chip cookies at the Ritz Carlton were $1.50. hahaha!
planning field trips. A couple of weeks ago, we went strawberry picking! Next up, a trip to a local aquarium and a peach-pickin’ adventure at a nearby farm. Life these days calls for all hands on deck, so these field trips usually happen on the weekends – when daddy is free to join us! In this season of parenthood, our weekends aren’t exactly relaxing, but they sure are fun!
reading more fiction. There for a few months, I found myself completely immersed in all things related to Down Syndrome. Now that I’ve officially read almost every.single.book that has ever been written on the topic, I have been diving in to a few fiction reads that have been sitting on my nightstand for awhile. Nothing special…just a few feel-good reads that help me wind down when I want to relax.
updating letters to my kids. Since before each of my babies were born, I have written letters to them. On my computer, I keep a few running documents: “Letters to Caleb”, “Letters to Isaac”, “Letters to Aubrey”, and every so often, I pop in to those files and write each kiddo a letter. Sometimes, the letters are lengthy…but most of the time they are just short little notes about something funny they have done or something new they have learned. Within these letters, I also like to include notes about funny word pronunciations they are using…or hilarious conversations I have had with them…you get the idea! Certain seasons are busier than others, so I’m not always able to write as much as I want, but I try to do it as often as I can, and as I look back and read the entries, I’m always so glad that I’ve taken the time to document…for their sake and for mine!
writing an e-book. Yes, you heard me correctly! In the midst of life’s craziness, I am working on finishing an e-book that is all about Homeschooling Your Preschooler! I have heard from so many moms who want to know more about how they can learn at home with their little ones, and I am so excited to get this resource in to their hands! If this is a topic that interests you, and you want to be one of the first to know when the book is released, sign up here! As we move closer to the launch date, you will receive info about the book, but in the meantime, you will receive a few freebies sent directly to your inbox!
