This round of A Glimpse Into Our Life includes a peek into Summer 2018.
A Glimpse Into Our Life
Around here these days, I’m…
enjoying a more flexible schedule. With the summer comes a little bit more flexibility. For the first weeks of summer, there was less schooling at home and more summer camps, fewer therapy appointments and more time traveling to see family and adventuring on field trips – and it was definitely a nice change of pace. As the camps and travel started to wind down, we were able to spend some time focused a few different areas of schooling I wanted to work on this summer. We’re mostly year-round in our schooling – with different seasons varying from one another schedule-wise, and this works really well for us.
snuggling a new baby. Just a few weeks ago, my brother had a baby – well, his wife did. I am now an aunt to the sweetest little baby boy, and I may or more not have already made two back-to-back trips out-of-state just so I could cuddle our family’s new little love.
prepping for back-to-school. We usually consider the day after Labor Day to be our first day of school. Sure, we’ve been schooling in different ways throughout the summer months, but we usually bring all the core subjects back that week. So our first day is just around the corner. This year, I’ll be homeschooling a second-grader, a kindergartener, and a preschooler – all with a baby on my hip. Our day-to-day is definitely a juggling act, but even on the hardest days, I’ve gotta tell ya: It’s a dream come true, and I am so grateful for the gift of time together.
going to Pure Barre. Soooo…..this is a new thing for me. A few months ago, I gave Burn Boot Camp a try. In my lifetime, I have had two near-death experiences: one situation involved an underwire bra and the other involved my trial week at Burn Boot Camp. “Stick it with it!”, they say. Um no, if I had stuck with it, all of my internal organs would have fallen out of my body. I remember my college days including a little bit of Pilates – something that gave me the results I was looking for and was definitely more gentle with my body. So I started looking into some different Pilates-like options in our area – and as I was browsing, a friend of mine messaged me and said, “You should try Pure Barre!”. I’m five classes in, and I really like it! It’s not easy, that’s for sure – but it’s exactly what my post-partum body needs.
Um, if your youngest is getting ready to turn one, can you still call yourself post-partum? Post-partum includes any time following having a baby, right? Perfect. That’s what I thought – Thanks!
knee deep in Birthday Season. In our house, all of the kids have a birthday around the same time of year. For us, this means lots of special family days together and one big family party with the grandparents and aunts and uncles. No matter the day of the week, daddy spends it with us, and we look forward to these birthday occasions all year-long. Can’t wait to show you this year’s celebration – we are planning on there being lots of pizza and ice cream involved.
creating YouTube videos. Speaking of new things, I have recently done something I said I would NEVER do! I started a YouTube channel. Video work is WAY out of my comfort zone, but I’m really excited about trying something new and putting together fun content for followers who are interested in connecting in that space. Over and over again lately, I have been reminded that not everyone is on Instagram…or Facebook…or consistent in visiting blogs, and I’ve had lots of requests to create a common gathering space for videos. So YouTube it is! If you’ve not yet subscribed to our channel, I’d love to see you there. I’m planning to share all things home and family (same as here!): simple recipes, organization tips, money-saving ideas, and homeschooling inspiration. So if that’s your thing, you’ll love it there!
I hope you had a great summer and are looking forward to a fun fall of living and learning with the ones you love. Let’s do it well – and let’s do it together!
