This round of A Glimpse Into Our Life includes a peek into our life lately.
A Glimpse Into Our Life
Around here these days, I’m…
celebrating birthdays. All of my kiddos’ birthdays fall right at the end of the summer, and we always refer to this time of year as Birthday Season. This year, they’re turning 4, 6, 8, and 10. Birthday Season always includes an injury of some kind – last year it was a bike wreck…this year it’s a soccer injury…same kid every year. ha! It also always includes watching hurricane coverage. If your family has been impacted by Ida, know that we are praying for you – we are praying for you every day.
kicking off a new school year. Yes, we technically school year-round, but our official 180-day school year (Here in North Carolina, we’re asked to keep track.) typically runs from around Labor Day to Memorial Day. I am feeling so encouraged as we go into a new year. Even after several years of homeschooling, I continue to learn so much from all of the amazing families who have gone before me, and if you find yourself craving some fresh inspiration, I would highly recommend reading Pam Barnhill’s books Better Together and Plan Your Year as well as Durenda Wilson’s books The Unhurried Homeschooler and The Four-Hour School Day. I just finished Durenda Wilson’s new book, and the timing could not have been more perfect!
grieving for our country. Friends, I am completely heartbroken – and also incredibly angry – about what is happening in our country and around the world right now. Over the past year, my goal has been to continue walking out my daily calling at home while finding ways our family can serve others around us, but I would be lying if I said maintaining an eternal perspective hasn’t been a daily struggle for me. I just want to DO something that will help fix this mess we’re in right now. I feel so helpless…and the evil seems so great…pure evil – that’s exactly what it is. Every night we pray that God would use us to be a light in the darkness, and I know many of you are praying the same thing with your families. God, we need You. We desperately need you.
continuing to wait in the adoption process. If you’ve been following our adoption process, you know we are now actively receiving cases. If you missed our post about going active, you can read a little bit more about how that process works here.
For the first few days of being active, it was hard to concentrate on other things. I was checking my phone constantly, but I finally had to make myself set some boundaries there. I was driving myself crazy! ha!
At this point, we have received several cases, and there was actually one a few weeks ago that was a YES! for us. We were really excited about it! It was a little baby boy who was due on one of my kiddos’ birthdays. Honestly, it seemed like a nearly perfect situation for us. However, we were one of many families who said yes to this sweet baby boy, and after a few days of waiting to hear back, we got the update that another family had been chosen. I felt a little disappointed, but I also couldn’t help but be excited for the family that had been chosen.
As of today, we haven’t said yes to any other cases, but we continue to read the ones that come our way and pray over them and look forward to possibly saying yes to another one soon. We are so grateful for the prayers you are praying for us. Some of you have even sent gifts and financial encouragement our way, and we so grateful for your thoughtfulness and generosity. Thank you for sharing with us in this journey. I wish I could tell you what was going to happen. I wish you could tell me what was going to happen. Can you tell I don’t wait well? 😉
