Oven Baked S'mores Sitting on a Baking Sheet

Here’s why your family is going to be excited to try this recipe, too.

  • No fire pit necessary! S’mores are way too delicious a recipe to then only be enjoyed around an open fire. By using an oven, you can enjoy s’mores year-round! And you can avoid the mosquito bites of summer or the frozen toes of late fall. Not a bad idea!
  • They’re a crowd favorite! Everyone loves s’mores! Melty chocolate, toasty marshmallows, crispy graham crackers… what’s not to love!? This classic campfire treat is the perfect way to add that finishing flair to movie nights, backyard grill-outs, or summertime sleepovers. Or why not bring them to a holiday party? S’mores are delicious any time of year!

  • It’s quick! When making s’mores outdoors, it’s a rather time-intensive affair. An easy way to enjoy s’mores in a matter of minutes is to make them indoors using a hot oven.
  • Make big batches! When there’s just one bonfire and a certain amount of sticks, it can be hard to make enough s’mores to feed a crowd. There’s a lot of waiting around. Instead, you can make large batch of s’mores ahead of time in your oven, so the whole group can enjoy their s’mores at the same time.

Ingredients For Easy Oven S’mores

All the ingredients we know and love for campfire s’mores are the same ones you’ll use for oven s’mores. Easy enough!

S'mores Ingredients Sitting on Kitchen Countertop
  • Graham Crackers – I’ve found that a baking sheet can easily fit 9 s’mores, so you’ll need 18 individual graham squares. You can’t go wrong with classic graham crackers, but you can also use the honey-flavored or cinnamon-topped ones as well!
  • Marshmallows – Use regular marshmallows for the best texture. Mini marshmallows tend to burn too quickly, and those extra-large marshmallows get golden on the outsides before the insides are sufficiently gooey. You’ll need 2 marshmallows to set on top of each graham cracker base. If all you have on hand is the jumbo marshmallows, just cut them in half and treat the marshmallow halves as individual marshmallows.
  • Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Bars – If possible, use the fun-sized Hershey’s chocolate bars. They give the perfect amount of chocolate-to-marshmallow ratio. Of course, you can always swap for your favorite type of chocolate. Need ideas? Keep scrolling – I have some below!

How To Make S’mores In Your Oven

It’s easy to make toasty and gooey s’mores indoors!

However, it’s not quite as simple as putting the s’mores together in a square pan and popping them in the oven.

You want the marshmallow layer and chocolate layer to be toasted – not burnt!

So you’ll work in layers.

Here’s how we do it:

  1. Prep your cookie sheet or baking dish with parchment paper or aluminum foil. Don’t skip this step, because cooked marshmallow is difficult to clean off of baking sheets!
  2. Cover the pan with a layer of graham crackers, with a layer of marshmallows on top of them.
  3. Broil the marshmallows in the oven until the marshmallows are gooey and toasted. It takes just a minute or two, so don’t walk off!
  4. Add a piece of chocolate on top of each golden brown marshmallow, and then set it inside the still warm (but turned off) oven to melt. This will only take a minute!
  5. Add the top graham cracker layer on top of the chocolate and give it a good smash.

Now it’s time to enjoy – Look how amazing these are going to be!

How To Store Leftover Indoor S’mores

If you happened to make more s’mores than you can eat in one go, don’t worry – you can easily store the leftovers.

They can be stored in a Ziploc bag or in an airtight container, and left on the counter top at room temperature for up to five days.

Past that point, the graham crackers will start to go a bit soft and stale. Still delicious, just not quite at their A game.

To reheat the leftover s’mores next time, place them on a microwave-safe plate and microwave them for about 10 seconds.

The marshmallows will expand when cooked this way, so don’t be alarmed – that’s normal.

You can also put them in a preheated oven for 1-2 minutes. This will keep the graham cracker sheets nice and crispy.

My Top Tip For Perfect Sheet Pan S’mores

This easy dessert recipe is pretty straightforward, but for the best results, be sure to keep an eye on your oven!

This is not a recipe where you can walk away while the graham cracker sheet and marshmallows are under the broiler.

Whether it’s inside your oven on the broiler setting, or on a stick over open flame, we all know that marshmallows burn so quickly!

  • Cracker Substitutes – In addition to different flavors of Honey Maid graham cracker squares, try using Biscoff cookies, chocolate chip cookies, Ritz crackers, or vanilla wafers instead.
  • Chocolate Change-Ups – There’s more than one way to enjoy melted chocolate! Any kind of chocolate bar works great – dark chocolate, white chocolate, even cookies-and-cream. Chocolate bars that have peanuts or almonds added will lend that nutty flavor to your s’mores. Or, swap out the square of chocolate for Reese’s peanut butter cups or peppermint patties!
  • Fruity Flavors – Many types of fresh fruit taste great with toasted marshmallows and sweet chocolate, such as strawberry or banana slices. Blueberries and raspberries taste great too!
  • A Touch Of Fancy – You can really step-up your s’more game by adding things such as coconut flakes, a sprinkle of cinnamon and nutmeg, or a drizzle of salted caramel sauce.
