Construction Site Sensory Activity: Math and Reading
Few things excite my boys quite like getting to see a real-live construction site! They are lovers of all things rocks, dirt, and TRUCKS! So I decided to help them create their very own Construction Site. Yes, one for each of them, and they were big fans!

All we needed to create our constructions sites were:
- a few trucks (I found these little cuties at a yard sale, but you can grab them here on Amazon Prime.)
- a batch of rocks
- and a plastic container (Any size will do! Go small – Go big – Whatever Works for you and your crew!)
My kids love books about trucks!
Some of our favorite Construction Site Books include:
The Happy Man and His Dump Truck
Where Do Diggers Sleep at Night?
Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site and Steam Train, Dream Train Boxed Set
Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site
Mighty, Mighty Construction Site
So before, during, and after this Construction Site Sensory Activity, we read and read and read some more!
This was also a perfect time to revisit one of our favorite activities from Bitty Beginnings:
*As of recently, Bitty Beginnings shop is no longer available.*
I love that this math activity can be used to practice counting with any and all numbers from 1 to 20 but can also be extended to use with older kids for addition and subtraction practice. I am one happy mama when I’m able to include my preschooler and elementary kiddo in the same learning experience.

If your kids love exploring, I know they’ll love this Magnet Sensory Bin. It couldn’t be any easier to toss together! Check it out! For daily glimpses into our activities, follow along with my Instagram account. We are a homeschooling preschool and elementary and are always so excited to connect with other families!
FIVE SENSES LEARNING
Love hands-on learning activities that engage the Five Senses? If you’d stayed with me throughout this post, then you probably do! That’s how we love to learn around here, and I’ve shared my favorite preschool ideas in this resource: my Five Senses Letter-a-Week Activity Guide
I’ve had so many readers message me after downloading this resource and say, “This is more than just the alphabet!”, and friends, they are so, so right! If you don’t own these packet, hop over here and take a peek inside.
Woo, Really wonderful collection. My son also crazy about construction sites. Now he can create his own. I appreciated your ideas, you really inspired me. Thanks a lot for this.
