Low-Prep Pippi Longstocking Activities

As a young reader, Pippi Longstocking was one of my favorite chapter books! It was a read-aloud I could not wait to enjoy with my girls, and in this post, I’m sharing a handful of Low-Prep Pippi Longstocking Activities we enjoyed together while reading this book.

Mom and Daughters Reading Pippi Longstocking Together

Our read-aloud book choices are not part of any of the curriculum we use – we simply choose books we want to read together and we read them.

Reading books aloud is a daily part of our homeschooling routine.

Pippi Longstocking Activity Ideas

These simple activity ideas are low-prep in every way!

You won’t find any complicated crafts or projects here – just simple ideas that can easily be paired with this well-loved story.

Such a classic story that will have your kids laughing out loud!

Art Ideas

  • Draw a portrait of Pippi.
  • Draw a horse – just not on the floor like Pippi did in chapter four…unless maybe you wanted to use sidewalk chalk – outside.

Literacy Ideas

Play Ideas

  • Play with Toy Horses: Over the years, we have enjoyed several different ones/playsets from Schleich and Melissa and Doug.
  • “Thing-Finder” Games – Similar to the game Pippi plays in chapter two: I Spy Books, a scavenger hunt (Here’s one my girls thought was so much fun..), etc.
  • Play tag that like Pippi does in chapter three.
  • In chapter eleven, the “Don’t Touch the Floor” game reminded my girls of “The Floor is Lava”, and they wanted to play that – You can find four ways to play here.
  • Throw a birthday party for Pippi – also inspired by chapter eleven.
  • Dress up like Pippi Longstocking – and/or her horse.

Snack Ideas

  • In chapter one, Pippi makes pancakes! On her YouTube channel, Bryton Taylor shares the Pippi Pancake recipe.
  • Ginger Snap Cookies – These Ginger Cookies by Dewey’s Bakery are a favorite in our house.
  • Decaf Coffee (or hot cocoa if you’d prefer)
  • Bake treats together – hopefully not making the mess that Pippi makes when she bakes! ha!

Enjoy your snacks while you read together!
