Sweet Chex Mix Ingredients

To get started with this simple recipe, you’ll want to gather the following ingredients:

  • 2 Cups of Chex Cereal – We’ve found that Rice Chex or Corn Chex works best for this recipe.
  • 1 Cup of Chocolate Candy – You’ll see us adding M&M’s to ours.
  • 1 Cup of Peanuts and/or 1 Cup of Pretzels – What does your family prefer?
  • Approximately 8 oz. of Chocolate for Melting – In these photos, you’ll see we had white chocolate chips on hand.

Consider the Season

Are you planning to make this sweet treat around Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Christmas, etc.? We like to use candy that coordinates with the season!

How to Make this Simple Sweet Mix

  1. Begin by melting your chocolate. For this round, we melted white chocolate chips in our double-boiler pan. When we do this, we usually add a tablespoon of coconut oil to the chocolate. This helps to keep our chocolate nice and smooth. Note: Stay close-by, stirring often – you don’t want your chocolate to burn.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, toss together your dry ingredients: cereal, candy, peanuts, pretzels, etc.
  3. When the chocolate has melted, pour it over your dry mixture. Gently fold it all together.
  4. Then evenly pour your chocolate-coated mixture out on a non-stick surface like parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  5. Allow the chocolate to solidify – This can take an hour or two.
  6. Now it’s time to either package up – or enjoy!

I had some Valentine’s Treat bags leftover in my seasonal kitchen bin, and this was the perfect treat to gift in them…

You Might Want to Try

  • Like I said, you may want to add pretzels. Not everyone in my house is wild about pretzels, so these usually get left out of any Chex Mix we make.
  • Mini marshmallows can be a fun addition to this mixture. If you decide to add them, sprinkle them in after you’ve folded the chocolate/cereal together some and the melted chocolate has started to cool a bit.
