Clutter-Free Christmas Gift Ideas for Kids

If you’re like me, you look around your house and think, The last thing we need is more stuff. Maybe you’ve even lamented the fact that your family life is so busy…so full of commitments…so full of stuff…that you struggle to find time to simply experience life together…and have a little fun once in awhile. With those things in mind, I have brainstormed a list of Five Clutter-Free Christmas Gift Ideas for Kids that might be the perfect fit for your family!

Give the gift of time!

Gift little ones with a basket full of everything they need to bake cookies, and then bake the cookies with them. Gift the kiddos in your life with a bucket full of art supplies and then sit down and create something together. If you feel as if your life has become so busy that you rarely spend time with the ones that mean the most to you, find a way this Christmas to give your family the gift of your time. It’s one of the most meaningful things you have to give….and not just at the holidays, but all year long.

Give the gift of an experience!

Have you ever received plane tickets in your stocking? Okay, I haven’t either; but listen: Plan a family trip…maybe it will be extravagant…maybe not. Simply wrap up an item that gives your kiddos a little clue about where you might be planning to take them….to the beach…on a Disney Cruise…on a winter trip to a cabin in the mountains….on a weekend get-away to Hawaii (Hey, a girl can dream, right?) – you get the idea! It will be exciting for them to unwrap a clue, and begin anticipating a fun time together as a family.

Give the gift of learning!

Swim lessons, soccer camp, art classes, Lego camp, music sessions, etc. are all great opportunities for learning! Gift the kiddos in your life with a year of art classes, a summer of swim lessons, a subscription to Kiwi Crate, a year-long membership to their local children’s museum. There are so many options here! As a parent of little ones, I would much rather see them receive the gift of a learning opportunity rather than another toy.

Give the gift of an event!

Do the kids in your life have access to a children’s theater or a venue where fun kid-friendly events are offered? Gift them with tickets to a play or a show! They will love it – I promise!

Give the gift of gift cards!

Around here, we love restaurant Gift Cards! Chick-fil-a gift cards from the grandparents? Always a hit! Our kids love going to “chicken-lay” (as they call it) and “paying” for their meals with gift cards that their grandparents have given them. iTunes/Google Play gift cards are another great option – This allows kids to purchase media that they can enjoy over and over again…media that you won’t have to find a physical place to store.
