Seasonal Bins for the Kitchen
We love so many of the different celebrations that come along throughout the year!
For a long time now, I’ve kept my holiday supplies organized with these seasonal bins for the kitchen.
Each family will have celebrations that are important to them.
For our family, we most enjoy:
- New Year’s Eve/New Year’s Day
- Aubrey Day
- Valentine’s Day
- Easter
- Patriotic Celebrations
- Birthdays
- Thanksgiving
- Christmas
Your family’s list may look similar – or very different!
Either way, I hope this kitchen organization idea is helpful to you.
What are Seasonal Bins?
These seasonal bins are small plastic containers I use for organizing and storing kitchen-related items that I plan to use for various celebrations.
This is not where I store holiday-themed books, learning activities, etc. for my kids. I actually have homeschooling seasonal bins as well, but that’s for a different post.
In this post, think food-related items – party goods that will be used in the kitchen.
For several years, I used these smaller shoebox-sized bins…
..and they worked great…

…but I did eventually decide to make better use of the cabinet space where I was storing these bins and switch these smaller containers out for some larger SAMLA containers I had from IKEA.
It’s not that I acquired more stuff.
In fact, I have actually quite dramatically purged our entire home.
I simply wanted to have a little bit more flexibility to be able to add larger items to the bins when needed – especially since the cabinet would accommodate containers that were a bit bigger in size.
What Kind of Things are Included in these Seasonal Bins?
- candy molds
- cupcake liners/toppers
- cookie cutters
- treat bags
- paper plates
- disposable napkins
- festive straws
- disposable table cloths
- birthday candles
- banners
- food gift supplies
These bins are so helpful to me!
They help me stay organized.
When I find a seasonal kitchen-related item on sale after the season…Or when I come across adorable unused party supplies being sold at a yard sale (This happens a lot!)…Or when I have leftovers from a celebration, I know where the items go!
There are no other containers or places around my home where these items would be stashed.
They immediately go in these seasonal bins.
I’ve made a rule for myself that there is no other option.
This keeps things from getting misplaced and forgotten about when various seasons or celebrations come around on the calendar.
They are great at giving me information.
The clear bins allow me to quickly consider:
- Do I already have plenty of supplies for Valentine’s Day?
- Is there anything I need to replenish before the fall season?
- Am I ready for birthday season? (In our house, our kids all have birthdays around the same time of year.)
- Should I avoid Hobby Lobby because I already have plenty of things for Christmas food gifts?
I really try to use bins like this to limit what I bring into my home.
The Minimal Mom refers to this as The Container Concept.
The container is the boundary!
The container also gives me a place to store items I have left over or have purchased ahead of time – saving me money when celebration time arrives!
I’m able to use what I already have to make things special!
If you do not have a system in place for organization and storing items like this, you may want to give this idea a try!
During the initial setup, you may find yourself paring down the amount of seasonal items you have on hand.
You may be shocked as to how much you have accumulated.
Though each family celebrates differently, we all know we can only use so much.
You may look ahead and realize you are all set for the upcoming holidays!
