Little Blue Truck’s Christmas Activities

As a mom, one of my favorite things to buy my kids is books! When my boys were just toddlers, I gifted them with books from the Little Blue Truck Series, and over time, these sweet reads have continued to be favorites in our house.

And just when I thought things couldn’t get any sweeter, a Little Blue Truck’s Christmas was released, and we fell in love all over again.

Few things are cozier than snuggling up with a good book – especially during the holidays – and when it’s a story that really captures the attention of my kids, it’s fun to pair activities with the read-aloud.

When enjoying any of the Little Blue Truck Books, these Free Dot Printables from Fiddle Doodle are so much fun,

and when it’s time to celebrate the Christmas season with Little Blue Truck, things get even more festive!

Little Blue Truck’s Christmas Animal Play

Using toy animals you already own, bring the story to life with pretend play. Use their voices – Make their sounds!

Animal finger puppets are another great way to add a little extra pizzazz to a read-aloud. Take turns: You tell the story (using the finger puppets), and then see if your child wants to take a turn.

For older children, maybe they could tell the story from one specific animal’s perspective. This could be fun!

Little Blue Truck’s Christmas Tree Count

Remember those little green counters? They are perfect to use when counting the Christmas trees in this story!

In addition to using the counters, I also like to use five sweet little Christmas trees – part of the Christmas Tree Farm Activity Set from Bitty Beginnings. Other portions of this set pair great with this Christmas story!

When reading a book with my littles, I love to bring to life whatever is on the page: taking a two-dimensional story and making it 3D. Oftentimes, we have things around the house that we can easily pair with a book, and I don’t always gather the items and spend time preparing ahead of time. Most of the time, this simply looks something like this:

Caleb, I see a cow on this page. Can you go find our toy cow that looks just like this one?

Isaac, this book is about a little blue truck. Do we have any toy trucks that could help us tell our story?

They have always loved running off to find these kinds of things and bringing them back to where we are reading together. This is made easy by our toys being fairly organized (most of the time! ha!). For example, we have a huge basket where all our toy animals live, so the kids know a toy cow would be in that basket. AND We have a huge bucket where all of our play vehicles hang out, so the kids know a blue truck would be in that bucket.

Got a vehicle-lover on your hands? So do I!
