Wise Acres – Indian Trail, NC
Every year – just as spring is in full-swing and we know that summer is just around the corner, one of our favorite family field trips is to Wise Acres Organic Farm in Indian Trail, North Carolina.
We have adventured to all kinds of different pick-your-own farms, and we’ve discovered that Wise Acres offers some extra-special things for families that we haven’t seen anywhere else.

First of all, their variety of strawberries is fantastic!
As we pick, I’m always thinking about the perfectly perfect strawberry shortcake dessert we’re going to be able to have that week – and feeling jealous of all the people there gathering big batches of strawberries to use for making homemade jam.
I’ve always wanted to learn how to do that. Ha!
We try to time our picking excursion for an early-season weekend – arriving in the morning before it gets too busy – with plans to stay long enough to enjoy their amazing pizza.
Yes, pizza.
Wise Acres offers the most delicious wood-fired pizza we’ve ever had.
(No, this is not a paid advertisement – I’m simply sharing one of our family favs!)
We pick strawberries.
Then after placing our pizza order, the kids do activities and play games while we wait.
There are all kinds of fun things for kids to see and do there:
live animals, outdoor games, a little barrel-train ride, ropes and swings, and more.
After our pizza lunch, we like to head over to the barn and grab one of their fruit slushies. These are especially perfect when the temperatures are hot.
I love hanging out in the barn where they also sell local produce, honey, and elderberry syrup, too.
We’ve loved our spring/summer mornings at Wise Acres.
So many sweet memories have been made!
Both girls had their pictures made in this wagon – at about the same age…wearing the exact same strawberry-patch outfit –
because their mommy is sentimental like that.
Wise Acres also offers pumpkins in the fall, and after a couple of years of visiting them only during strawberry season, we ventured out to Indian Trail for pumpkin picking,
and we now officially have our favorite pumpkin patch as well.
The corn maze, the wagon ride, the pizza, the apple cider slushies – we look forward to it all every year!
Following along with Wise Acres’ Facebook Page has made it easy for me to stay up-to-date with their calendar, picking conditions, etc.
So if you live within driving distance to this gem of a spot, you may want to do that, too.
A Quick Update about this Family Field Trip:
In recent years, Wise Acres has implemented a reservation system they require you to use in order to visit.
Sadly, this has made it much more difficult to make plans to visit their farm.
We are hopeful that this will not remain in place. Last we checked, this was still the setup, but please let us know if you notice a change on their website!
