Not a fan of Golden Oreos? No worries!
This pie can be made with regular Oreos instead!
In fact, throughout this post, I’m going to show you both versions – Golden Oreo Ice Cream Pie and Oreo Ice Cream Pie made with classic Oreos.
Here we go!
Why You’ll Love this Golden Oreo Ice Cream Pie
- It’s a crowd-pleaser! This is the perfect summer dessert for any special occasion – for birthdays, barbecues, and showers.
- It’s beats the heat! Nobody wants to spend a lot of time in a hot kitchen. It’s good to have a no-bake dessert idea always on standby.
- It comes together quickly! All of the ingredients can be found ready-made, and it takes maybe 10 minutes to put together and pop in the freezer overnight.
- It’s endlessly customizable! I love the light vanilla flavors of Golden Oreos and creamy vanilla ice cream, but once you’ve got this basic recipe down, you can change many of the ingredients out to suit your favorite ice cream flavors and cookies.
Ingredients Needed For This Oreo Dessert
You only need four ingredients to make a sweet treat that everyone will love!
- Vanilla Ice Cream – You can’t make an ice cream pie without ice cream! Pick up a standard-size carton of your favorite vanilla ice cream from the store. Would you rather go homemade? I got you – head over to this post to learn about I make delicious homemade ice cream – in a bag!
- Cool Whip – Mixing whipped cream in with the ice cream will give it extra creaminess. One regular-sized container of Cool Whip is the perfect size for one pie. You can also make your own, by beating heavy cream (plus a splash of vanilla extract and a pinch of sugar) in a stand mixer until it maintains soft peaks.
- Golden Oreo Cookies – You’ll need a full package of these vanilla-flavored Oreos, and you’ll need to crush them up. You can do that in a food processor, and put them in a large plastic bag and crush them using a rolling pin. Some of these Oreos will go in the pie filling, and some will be sprinkled on top of the pie.
- Graham Cracker Crust – Store bought is totally fine! That’s what we usually do -but, as you’ll soon find out, this ice cream pie recipe has endless variations – so if you need to whip up a cookie crust to match the specific flavors you’re looking for, I share a quick recipe later on in this post. Depending on the size of your pie crust, this mixture you’ve made will be enough to make two pies. I like being able to make one for the occasion – and one to keep in the freezer for a later date!
How To Make this No-Bake Ice Cream Pie
- To make the ice cream filling, you need to mix together the Cool Whip, ice cream, and most of the crushed Golden Oreos. This is easiest if you let the ice cream sit on the counter for 15 minutes so that it can soften. Use a large bowl and your own manpower, or let an electric mixer with a whisk attachment handle the mixing for you.
- Fill the pie crust with an even layer of this creamy vanilla ice cream filling. An offset spatula is a good tool for this.
- Top your pie with the remaining Golden Oreo crumbs. Or use whole cookies! Both options look (and taste) delicious!
- Pop the pie in the freezer for at least 4 hours. Overnight is what we usually do!
Can I Make This Golden Oreo Pie Recipe Ahead Of Time?
Yes!! You can! In fact, this is the perfect dessert recipe to make an extra of and pop in the freezer!
Remember, depending on the size of your pie crust, you’ll likely have enough ingredients to make two pies anyway.
Once you’ve made your Golden Oreo ice cream pie, wrap the pie plate tightly in aluminum foil, slide it in a plastic freezer bag, and store it in the freezer for up to two months.
It will be waiting for you when you have that impromptu cook-out this summer!
How Should I Handle Leftovers?
Assuming you even have leftovers, haha!
Cover the ice cream pie with plastic wrap, or transfer it to an airtight container. Then, place it in the freezer.
It will stay fresh for a couple of weeks.
A word to the wise, however – avoid moving the leftover pie back and forth from the counter to the freezer multiple times.
You’ll want the pie to soften slightly so that you can cut off your slice, but frequently thawing and refreezing the pie will cause your ice cream to form ice crystals and taste slightly off.
Variations On This Ice Cream Pie Recipe
There are SO. MANY. combinations and variations on this Golden Oreo ice cream pie!
You can switch the type of cookie crust, the flavor of ice cream, and even the different toppings you choose to use!
The world of perfect summertime desserts lies open at your feet.
Here are some ideas to get you started.
- Cookies And Cream – Switch from vanilla flavors to chocolate! Use a homemade or store bought Oreo cookie crust. Mix crushed Oreo cookies in with the vanilla ice cream, or buy cookies-and-cream ice cream. Then top with crushed Oreos and chocolate syrup.
- Mint Chocolate – Hey, they make mint-flavored Oreos and mint chocolate chip ice cream. Sounds like a perfect combination to stick in a chocolate cookie crust! Top with chocolate curls for some extra fancy.
- Chocolate Lovers – Chocolate for everything! Chocolate cookie crust, chocolate ice cream, crushed Oreos on top, and chocolate cream – Yes, please!
- Peanut Butter + Chocolate – A match made in heaven. Use peanut butter ice cream with your regular Oreo cookies, and place it in chocolate cookie crust. This pie tastes delicious with a thick hot fudge sauce drizzled on top!
- Dipped Strawberries – We’re thinking “chocolate dipped strawberries” for this one. Keep the graham cracker crust, put swap to strawberry ice cream. Top with Oreo crumbs, sliced strawberries, and a generous drizzle of melted dark chocolate. My mouth is watering just thinking about this!
- Mocha – Using either a graham cracker or Oreo cookie crust, fill it with coffee ice cream swirled with chocolate syrup. Top it with whipped cream and and some chocolate cookie crumbs.
- Samoas – This twist will use a Golden Oreo cookie crust, vanilla ice cream with caramel sauce swirled in, and a topping of chocolate shavings and toasted coconut flakes.
How To Make Your Own Homemade Cookie Crust
Once you start tweaking my Golden Oreo ice cream pie recipe, you might find yourself needing to make your own crust.
Cookie crusts are simple to make, no matter whether you use graham crackers, Oreos, chocolate chip cookies, or vanilla wafers. The process is always the same.
- Use a food processor to blitz your cookies or crackers into fine crumbs.
- Melt a couple tablespoons of butter.
- Add the melted butter to the cookie crumbs, and stir.
- Press this mixture into a pie pan, using your fingers to help cover the sides of your pan. Use the bottom of a measuring cup to help press the bottom of your pie crust perfectly flat.
- Pop your crust in the fridge for 15 minutes to set! You’re done! And 15 minutes is also how long your ice cream will take to soften for the pie, so in goes the crust, out comes the ice cream.
