At different times in our homeschool life, we have utilized these tools, programs, etc. and I hope you’re feeling encouraged as you consider ideas for what might be most helpful to your family right now.
Teachers and Tutors
Is there a subject area where you feel your child would benefit from more focused instruction than you’re able to provide right now?
You may want to consider a local or on-line teacher specifically for that subject – or a tutor who can assist in additional ways beyond your daily lessons.
For example, there was a season when my boys had an on-line writing teacher.
I absolutely love teaching writing, but during the years we utilized this teacher, I was in need of some extra support in this area, and it was a wonderful gift to all of us!
A Local Co-Op
We are oftentimes asked if we are a part of a co-op.
We have actually never been a part of one, but I know there is a wonderful variety of options in our area.
This can be a great fit for many families.
On-line Programs/Apps
I hesitate to begin listing ideas here because there are so many!
At various times throughout our homeschooling years, we have used:
- Starfall (Math and Language Enrichment)
- Keyboarding without Tears (Typing Skills)
- IXL (Various Subjects)
- Teaching Textbooks (Math Curriculum)
- World Watch (News/Current Events)
but the options truly are endless!
If you have any online program or app recommendations you’d like to share with others, feel free to add them to the bottom of this post.
Other families are always the very best resource for homeschooling families.
Online Classes
Lots of options here as well!
We have found several great teachers on Outschool, but there are other similar sites that offer a wide variety classes.
These types of classes have been most helpful for us for learning more about art, music, chess, photography, etc.
Online Schools
Our older boys are now actually students of Liberty University’s Online Academy.
This has been a fantastic fit, and we highly recommend checking it out if you’re interested.
We are not able to speak to the elementary program, but for the upper grades, we have had a great experience.
Starting to outsource a bit in the upper elementary years seemed to really help prepare our kids for the transition to full-time work with LUOA.
We realize this may not be the best path for your student, but we hope you – like we did – feel the freedom to choose the path that does work best for them. We are cheering you on all the way!
Does your child want to learn to play chess?
