John Bunyan’s Pilgrim’s Progress Children’s Books
Pilgrim’s Progress: Young Readers from Abeka
The first simpler version of this classic work of literature we read was Pilgrim’s Progress – Christian’s Journey from Abeka.
After reading this story of Christian, we moved on to Abeka’s Pilgrim’s Progress – Christiana’s Journey.
These young readers are perfect for elementary students being introduced to the original plot of John’s Bunyan’s classic.
Abeka currently includes Christian’s Journey in their third-grade curriculum and Christian’s Journey in their fourth-grade curriculum.
However, no need to stick rigidly to those recommendations.
These readers make fantastic read-aloud books for students who are younger than that as well as kids who are older.
In fact, we used these family style – with all of our kids listening as we read this centuries-old tale together.
Little Pilgrim’s Big Journey: Part I and II
Not long after finishing these two books together, Lithos Books sent us the most beautiful hardcover additions of John Bunyan’s allegory.
Little Pilgrim’s Big Journey by Tyler Van Halteren – the story of Little Christian, fully illustrated and adapted for the next generation.
Little Pilgrim’s Big Journey by Tyler Van Halteren – Part II: Christiana and the Celestial City.
These fully illustrated books take one of the most influential books of all time and reach the hearts of children with important truths of the Gospel and necessary lessons about the Christian life.
These heirloom quality books are recommended for kids up to age ten, but as mentioned before, this timeless story has the power to have an enormous impact on each family member in your home.
Little Pilgrim’s Progress
Another wonderful book team also recently reached out to our family and sent us a copy of this version of Little Pilgrim’s Progress by Helen L. Taylor and Joe Sutphin.
This is a large, hardback storybook with a gorgeous dust jacket included.
Imagine the original plotlines of Bunyan told using furry creatures in the woodland realm.
Illustrator Joe Sutphin appears to have such a heartwarming love of nature.
We enjoyed reading this version together as a family.
It was such a neat way to recall the allegorical truths through fresh eyes.
The Amazon age recommendation for this one is ages 5-9, but I would recommend that be adjusted to include older kids as well.
In my opinion, this one actually requires a bit more stamina than the set from Lithos Kids.
Joe Sutphin’s extraordinary art sets this book apart in a unique way.
The imaginative new edition includes the very best visual storytelling.
Timeless words paired with lavish illustrations of living creatures bring this story to life in the most beautiful way.
Little Pilgrim’s Progress: From John Bunyan’s Classic
Like with the other versions, this book would make a fantastic read-aloud option for your family.
However, this is one my kids have really enjoyed reading independently.
Yes, this is another of Helen Taylor’s versions of this story retold for children’s hearts.
The books included in the post do not include all of the original text of Pilgrim’s Progress.
They are each an adaption of John Bunyan’s spiritual classic.
Any one of them would make a great gift!
