Seasonal Book Basket
We have always kept a seasonal book basket in our main living space, and I’d love to show you how this works for us!
You may have seen this post where I share the way I’ve organized our seasonal/holiday-themed books.

Having our books already organized this way makes it easy for this seasonal book basket idea to work!
What is a Seasonal Book Basket?
This is simply a basket dedicated to books for a specific season of the year or holiday!
Here are some of our family’s favorite books for the seasons and celebrations that are most important to us:
- Winter Books and Sensory Activities for Kids
- Groundhog Day Books for Kids
- Valentine’s Day Books for Kids
- Easter Books for Kids
- Apple Books for Kids
- Our Favorite Fall Books for Kids
- Thanksgiving Books for Kids
- The Gingerbread Man Story Books for Kids
- The Nutcracker Story Books for Kids
- Christmas Books for Kids
- Four Seasons Books for Young Readers
Your family’s favorites may look a bit different than ours, but no matter how and when you choose to use this idea, I think you’re going to love it!
Where Do I Put Our Basket of Books?
Our book basket can always be found in our main living area!
What would work well in your unique living space?
- Family Room
- Kitchen Nook
- Playroom Space
- Enclosed Porch Area
We keep ours in our main family room.
This location works for every season!
There was a time when I would also place some in these hanging baskets in our homeschool room.
However, over the years, we have found ourselves using our homeschooling space less and less – more naturally gravitating toward our main living areas, even for school time.
Now that I’ve down-sized our family library a bit, the single basket of books in the main living area works perfectly.
How a Book Basket like this is Helpful:
For each calendar season or holiday season, this basket is the home for the books for that time of year.
Books for that time of year are not strewn all over the house…or stored in some other area of the house for me to forget about until it’s too late.
I know where to find them – all together – and when it’s time, they go in the basket.
When the season is over, they go back to the bookshelf until the occasion rolls around again.
It’s so wonderful to have seasonal books/holiday titles within reach.
The younger kids can quickly grab a book and cuddle up to read with me…
…or on their own!
It makes it easier to incorporate fun themed books into other kinds of learning activities!
- Does your child enjoy following along with picture book read-alouds on YouTube?
- Do you use Art for Kids Hub? It’s a great way to bring to life various pieces of your favorite children’s books.
- Maybe your child enjoys other kinds of art activities – Do you ever read aloud while they create?
- Or maybe you’re in a stage when read-alouds pair perfectly with sensory activities!
- If you’re like us, you enjoy when a good book can be paired with something fun and festive to eat!
Would this idea work well for you?
For so long now, this has worked really well for us.
It’s actually a tradition I have every intention of continuing on with my grandkids!
