Waffle Cone Smores on the Grill
These Waffle Cone Smores on the Grill are a fun treat any time of year. A summer twist on a fall treat or a fall twist on a summer treat – You decide!
You’ll Love These Waffle Cone Smores!
- They’re a fun outside treat! – There’s more than one way to cook these waffle cone s’mores. Toss them directly into the leftover coals of a fire pit, place them on a heated grill, or, it’s a rainy day, use a baking sheet inside your oven. They’re a delicious treat whichever way you cook it, but let’s be honest – it’s most fun to cook on an open flame.
- You can make them ahead of time! – Prepping for a camping trip is a lot of work. You can make it just a little bit easier by filling and wrapping up the cones ahead of time. This only means that instead of packing up graham crackers and marshmallows and chocolate bars and s’more sticks, you can just toss the foil-wrapped cones in a bag and consider it done.
- They’re self-contained! – Traditional s’mores are delicious, but they can also be messy. I’m not saying there won’t still be gooey faces and sticky fingers after enjoying this twist on the classic campfire treat, but there is significantly less mess involved.
- They’re customizable! – Each person can make their own smores cones, filled with their favorite toppings they prefer. Who says you need to stick to the typical smores ingredients? Lay out a topping bar and let each member of the family or gathering fill them up how they’d like. There’s no wrong way to do it!
- They don’t take much! – This is a great way to use up the odds and ends in your pantry that are taking up space. Use up that half-bag of marshmallows before they go stale. Toss in the leftover candy from the last holiday. Sprinkle in the last handful of chocolate chips in the bag. Dice up that fruit that’s started to get too ripe. The more ingredients you offer as filling options, the more fun it is, so it really doesn’t take much of each!

- Ice Cream Cones – You’ll need one ice cream cone for every waffle cone s’more you intend to make. I like to use actual waffle cones. They’re thick, deep, and can stand up to the gooey goodness we’ll be putting inside of them! They also have a similar flavor and texture to graham crackers. But if you can’t find any, and perhaps don’t have a waffle cone maker in your list of kitchen appliances, you can try this recipe with a sugar cone!
- Fillings – The world is your oyster when it comes to filling your s’mores waffle cone. Of course, you can’t go wrong with marshmallows and chocolate, but I’ve got a whole long list of fillings to try and ingredient combinations to taste just below. Keep reading!
How To Make These S’mores Campfire Cones
It couldn’t be simpler to make this delicious dessert!
An easy set of instructions and many fun variations on fillings makes these ice cream cone s’mores a family favorite.
- Fill the waffle cones with the tasty treats of your choice. I recommend always including some type of marshmallow, because the melted marshmallow will help hold in all of the other ingredients. Stuff it full! The marshmallows and chocolate tend to really melt down.
- Wrap your filled campfire cone with a sheet of aluminum foil, being sure to give that tin foil a secure twist on the ends.
- Now you just need to heat up the cones. You can place them on a hot grill for about 3-5 minutes, or use long tongs to hold them over an active campfire for the same amount of time. The hot coals of a burned down campfire is another great option! Use a poker stick to really get those foiled-wrapped desserts surrounded by the indirect heat of the coals. If the weather is working against you, you can place them in the oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 5 minutes.
- Take the cone s’mores off of the heat, let them cool slightly, then unwrap the foil and enjoy!
Favorite Ingredients To Try
There are many ways to fill your s’more cone!
Favorite toppings to put together in my house are traditional s’more ingredients, Snickers and marshmallows, or Reeses with marshmallows and sliced bananas.
But great things come in many packages.
What new recipes will you try in your s’mores cone?
- Marshmallows – These can be mini marshmallows, regular marshmallows, even those fruit-flavored ones! When it comes to making a smores dessert, you just can’s skip out on the sticky marshmallows. Whatever other ingredients you add, try to keep this one! The gooey marshmallow also helps to hold any other ingredients you choose together.
- Chocolate – Of course, there are many different ways to check that chocolate box. Milk chocolate chips, white chocolate chips, semi-sweet chocolate chips – these are all just fine.
- Candy Bars – Any leftover chocolate candies you have on hand, throw them in the cone! Reese’s cups, bite-sized chunks of Twix or Snickers candy bars, and M&Ms all work great.
- Peanut Butter – There’s more than one way to get that classic peanut butter and chocolate flavor combo! If you don’t have peanut butter cups on hand, you can use peanut butter chips instead. Or, use a knife to coat the inside of the cones with a thin layer of peanut butter!
- Graham Cracker Pieces – The cone itself is a nod towards the graham cracker part of classic s’mores, but adding in smaller pieces of graham crackers really rounds it out.
- Fresh Fruit – Something about chocolate and fruit go so well together! A favorite in my house is banana slices, but you should also try strawberries or kiwi.
- Caramel – Caramel tastes delicious in a fruit combo. (I can’t stop thinking about fresh apples right now.) Either use caramel chips, or a drizzle of caramel sauce on top after opening up the foil wrapping. Speaking of drizzling a sauce on top, what about strawberry sauce or hot fudge?
