Waffles in the Waffle Maker

The cinnamon flavor of the rolls pairs so well with the outer crunchiness of a waffle. And it’s super easy to do!

It’s a great recipe for the children to help out with. There’s no mixing involved, no flour on the floor, no spilled milk.

I know we all love cooking alongside our children, but it’s also nice to have some showstopper breakfast recipes that don’t require much clean-up afterwards!

Uncooked Cinnamon Rolls on a White Plate

One of the reasons I love turning cinnamon rolls into cinnamon roll waffles is that it’s just so much quicker.

Rather than waiting for my oven to preheat, I can just plug in a waffle maker.

In as little as 3-4 minutes, I can have the first batch of cinnamon roll waffles finished whereas the oven would still be warming up.

This means we can still have a special breakfast, even when time is tight and there’s not much room in the morning routine.

Ingredients You’ll Need For Cinnamon Bun Waffles

Trust me, it doesn’t get any easier than this!

  • Cinnamon Rolls – Now, how you go about this ingredient is up to you. I love using a can of cinnamon rolls. This takes those already delicious Pillsbury cinnamon rolls and kicks them up a notch! You can also use thawed Rhodes premade cinnamon rolls. Or, you know, if you rolled up your own cinnamon buns and want to cook them in a fun way for a cozy Saturday morning, those work, too!
  • Cream Cheese Glaze – Most canned cinnamon rolls come with a container of cream cheese icing, but if not, don’t fret – I’ve got you covered below!

How To Make These Easy Cinnamon Roll Waffles

Do you have a waffle maker? Do you have your cinnamon roll dough? Good. Let’s make the perfect breakfast.

  1. Get Your Waffle Maker Ready – Spray a preheated waffle maker with a nonstick cooking spray. Yes, even if it has a nonstick coating. As opposed to traditional waffles, you’ll be dealing with a gooey cinnamon-sugar filling. A nonstick spray will make sure you’re not scrubbing away at cooked on sugar while your family is off having fun. Don’t have any spray on hand? Use a paper towel to quickly wipe olive oil or canola oil across the irons.
  2. Flatten The Cinnamon Rolls – Because these puff pastry cinnamon rolls are much thicker than typical waffle batter, they’re not going to flow into all of the nooks and crannies of your waffle maker. To help them cook evenly and fill the space, press each roll flat using your hands.
  3. Place The Cinnamon Rolls – Many waffle makers have spots for four separate waffles. If you’re using canned refrigerated cinnamon rolls, one roll equates to one waffle. So, you’ll need to lay out four waffles. If you’re using a Belgian waffle iron, simply space the rolls out evenly.
  4. Cook The Waffles! – Simply lower the lid and cook your waffles! A batch will take 3-4 minutes. Remove cooked waffles using a knife or fork, add your toppings, and enjoy!

Toppings For Delicious Cinnamon Roll Waffles

Because of the cinnamon swirl, you might find your don’t need any topping on your waffles at all! But if that’s not the case, here are some options:

  1. Butter And Maple Syrup – What’s good enough for the typical waffles is good enough for the cinnamon roll waffles.
  2. Flavored Syrups – Why stop at maple syrup? Try out some of the berry-flavored syrups, like strawberry syrup and raspberry syrup.
  3. Cinnamon Honey Butter – And why stop at butter? Take butter and whip it in a bowl with a sprinkle of cinnamon and a squeeze of honey.
  4. Cream Cheese Frosting – What’s a cinnamon roll without a cream cheese glaze? Recipe below!
  5. Powdered Sugar – Dust a nice layer of powdered sugar on top. Feeling fancy? Mix the powdered sugar with some milk to make a powdered sugar glaze.
  6. Whipped Cream And Fresh Berries – If you’d like to add a little lightness to your waffles, simply top with some whipped cream and fresh berries.

What To Serve With Cinnamon Bun Waffles

I know your children might be content to have cinnamon roll waffles and nothing but cinnamon roll waffles for breakfast, but you and I both know that this will set them up for a mid-morning crash. Be sure to balance out this delicious breakfast with scrambled eggs, bacon, or sausage!

Ingredients For Homemade Cream Cheese Glaze

If you’re using canned or frozen cinnamon rolls, the package likely included some cream cheese frosting. If not, however, it doesn’t take long to whip up your own batch while you’re manning the waffle iron!

  • Cream Cheese – You’ll need half a package of cream cheese, softened. This is about 4 ounces.
  • Butter – You’ll also need half a stick of butter, softened, or a 1/4 cup.
  • Powdered Sugar – A full 1 1/2 cup of confectioner’s sugar.
  • Milk – Use this to adjust how thick or creamy your topping will be. This is where you’ll determine whether you’ve got a cream cheese frosting or a cream cheese glaze.
  • Vanilla Extract – Just a splash. Because why not.

How To Make A Cream Cheese Glaze

Simply beat the above ingredients together in a large bowl! That’s it! If you’ll be frosting all of the cinnamon roll waffles straight off the waffle maker, make a thicker frosting.

Stack of Glazes Waffles on a White Plate

The heat from the waffles will cause the cream cheese and butter to melt. Alternatively, if you’ll be serving this on the table as just one among many toppings, add enough milk to make it a runnier consistency, like a glaze.
