How to Make Crushed Candy Cane Chocolate Brownies

You’re going to laugh at this first step, but I’m going to say it anyway.

Step One: Bake a pan of your favorite boxed brownies.

Yes, you just heard me correctly! No fancy recipe here. Simply grab your favorite box brownie mix, and get to work.

We typically purchase a bulk box of brownie mix from Sam’s Club or Costco. That way, we always have brownies on hand when we get a craving for them.

Our big box stores usually carry Hershey’s or Ghirardelli brownie mixes.

In our house, everything would agree that both brands of boxed brownie mix are delicious. They taste like homemade brownies.

Sometimes I bake our brownies in glass baking dish or square baking pan with parchment paper. There are also times I use a disposable foil pan.

For this occasion, I decided to bake my peppermint candy cane brownies in a silicone muffin pan.

This is the 12-cup silicone muffin pan we have, and it has crazy good reviews on Amazon.

Step Two: Sprinkle crushed candy canes on top of the brownies.

Do this as soon as your brownies come out of the oven!

I have found it helps to use a fork or a small spatula to pat the crushed candy canes down a bit they settle nicely into the tops of the brownies.

This small sprinkling of crushed peppermint with give your brownies the perfect amount of peppermint flavor.

These holiday brownies are delicious served warm or at room temperature.

Is it weird I even like cooled brownies? Straight from the fridge, to be exact.

These yummy fudgy brownies can be served with ice cream or with a steaming cup of hot chocolate.

An Extra Little Bit of Holiday Spirit

Don’t like the look of the brownies straight from the muffin pan?

The cupcake liners can be a special touch if you’re planning to share these at Christmas parties or gift them to someone else!

Another special touch I can’t stop thinking about for the Christmas season? Adding a drizzle of chocolate ganache! Or even a simple melted chocolate would work.

Doesn’t that sound beyond amazing – for any time of year really!

Some families might enjoy a touch of frosting – maybe even a peppermint frosting.

Honestly, that’s not my thing, but if you think that sounds like a good idea for your family, go for it!
