Dessert Kabobs
Over the years, we’ve enjoyed a variety of different kabob recipes. A couple of our favorites have been savory shrimp kabobs on the grill and sweet kabobs that involve peanut butter and bananas. In this post, I’m sharing our new favorite in our – dessert kabobs that include brownies and donuts!
Why You’ll Love These Chocolate Strawberry Dessert Kabobs

- They’re simple! Kabob recipes look fancy, but they don’t usually take much to put together. This dessert kabob is particularly simple, because you can head to the store and pick up many of the ingredients ready-made.
- They’re delicious! If you have a sweet tooth, these rich dessert kabobs are going to be right up your alley.
- They’re a great way to get kids involved! If you’re running around trying to get things ready for an event, you likely need a way to keep your kids out from underfoot. Why not set them to work making these skewers? They’ll have so much fun making patterns on the skewers, and it will check something off of your to-do list.

- Strawberries – You’ll need 10 fresh strawberries, with the stems removed and the core hulled.
- Marshmallows – Use large marshmallows. You can even use the strawberry-flavored marshmallows, if you’d like! The color and flavor will pair nicely with the rest of the kabob.
- Brownie Bites – You can buy packages of Brownie Bites, or make your own by making brownies in a mini muffin pan. You can also make a pan of brownies and use a cookie cutter to cut them into small flowers or heart shapes.
- Rice Krispies Treats – You can make your own, but prepackaged Rice Krispy Treats work just fine. Cut them into 1-inch pieces.
- Donut Holes – Get some for the kabobs, and maybe just a few extra for yourself to enjoy on the side. 😉
- Chocolate Almond Bark – You’ll use this to drizzle across the top of your dessert skewers. Chocolate chips and chocolate-flavored candy melts work just as well. You can choose milk chocolate, dark chocolate, or even white chocolate. Just keep in mind that it needs to harden as it cools, so chocolate syrup and hot fudge sauce won’t work here.
How To Make My Chocolate Strawberry Dessert Kabobs
- Start by getting your baking sheet ready by lining it with parchment paper.
- Load up your skewers with the strawberries, marshmallows, brownies, and Rice Krispy Treats in any order you wish! Place skewers flat on the baking tray, with a little space between them.
- To make your chocolate drizzle, place your chocolate chips or almond bark in a Ziploc bag and microwave it in 30 second increments until the chocolate is melted. Take the bag out and knead it with your hands between each 30 second session, so that the outer layer of chocolate doesn’t scorch!
- Cut off one lower corner of the plastic bag and drizzle the chocolate across the top of your fruit skewers.
- Set the skewers aside for the chocolate drizzle to harden. If your kitchen is warm, consider using the fridge for this!
How To Store Fruit Kabobs
Because of the wide range of ingredients in this sweet dessert, it can be tricky to store the strawberry kabobs.
If you’re looking to make these skewers ahead of time, it’s best to prep the ingredients, store them separately in the fridge, and then wait to assemble the dessert no sooner than a couple hours before your event.
The strawberries will start releasing moisture pretty shortly after being cut, and they are the main reason why it’s unwise to make the kabobs a day ahead of time.
Instead, prep your strawberries by coring them and cutting of the tops. Place a paper towel in the bottom of an airtight container, then set the strawberries on the paper towel cut side down.
The brownies, Rice Krispies, marshmallows, and donuts can all be stored in separate containers at room temperature.
After your event is over, you can store assembled kabobs in your fridge for up to five days.
Just place them in an airtight container. If you have to layer up the kabobs, place wax paper or parchment paper between each layer.
The texture and color of the kabobs may change slightly due to the moisture from the strawberries, but they will still taste delicious!
Other Ways To Change Up Strawberry Dessert Kabobs
Your creativity is the limit when it comes to making delicious dessert skewers.
Here are some other foods you can add to your kabobs.
- Cream Puffs – Get a container of ready-made cream puffs from the freezer section of your grocery store. Let them thaw out slightly, then add them to your skewers.
- Cake Cubes – Cut short cake or angel food cake into small cubes, about the same size as the rest of your dessert ingredients. To make strawberry shortcake skewers, dip the sides of the cake cubes in melted white chocolate, then coat them in crushed graham crackers.
- Chocolate Candies – Some chocolate candies work really well in a dessert kabob. Try small-sized Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. Peanut butter and chocolate are always a good pairing.
- Chocolate-Covered Fruit – Instead of regular strawberries, why not try chocolate-covered strawberries? For a dessert skewer that reminds you of banana splits, cut up a banana into small chunks and dip them in melted chocolate.
- Different Fruit – Other fruits will work well on these kabobs. Berries are perfect, especially raspberries.
What To Serve With My Perfect Strawberry Dessert Skewers
These donut kabob will work well with any summer BBQ spread, but if you really want a fancy spread of sweet treats, here are some ideas:
- Ice Cream – A scoop of vanilla ice cream pairs with just about everything!
- Fresh Fruit – For a little side option, offer a serving platter of different fruits.
- Mini Donuts – Because one donut hole per skewer might not be enough.
- Whipped Cream – Children in particular will love topping their skewer with a dollop of whipped cream!
