Does your child love horses? This post includes horse-themed books and activities we think they will love! We have included ideas for younger children as well as options for older kids.

Learn about Horses
- The Usborne Little Book of Horses and Ponies – We found this little book second-hand. It includes all kinds of interesting information about types of horses, caring for horses, how to ride a horse, etc.
- Pocket Genius: Horses – Our library carries some of these fun guidebooks! Inquisitive kids will really enjoy this series.
Picture Books about Horses
The local library can be a great place to find picture books – short stories you may not necessarily want to buy but you would enjoy reading with your kids.
Of course we’ve found great picture books second-hand, including this vintage picture book from the 1970s, but the library can be a great option as well.

Classic Stories about Horses
I’ve got to be honest with you, Black Beauty isn’t my favorite story – and I don’t really think my kids have ever found it all that interesting.
However, it’s a classic story, and I remember coming across this storybook and audio book that we incorporated into our school one year.
A road trip in the minivan gave us some time to listen to this story.
Is this a story your family has enjoyed or is there a different horse-themed classic you prefer?
