This S’mores in a Bag snack idea is a hit every time. It’s so easy to prepare I feel silly calling it a recipe!
Why these S’mores Snack Mix Bags are a perfect snack idea!
- They are the perfect grab-and-go snack! – Do you need a little something special to add to your co-op or school lunches? An easy snack for road trips? A delicious treat for your next movie night? Something to throw in your backpack for a family hike? Maybe you need an after-school snack option for the car as you head off to a sports practice. This is the perfect treat.
- They’re easy to prep! – It takes next to no time to set up an assembly line and make a giant armful of these s’mores snack bags! Toss them in your pantry, and you’ll be set when it comes to lunch box treats and car snacks for the next week or longer.
- They taste scrumptious! – Enjoy the nostalgic flavors of a campfire classic without fiddling with open flames, gooey faces, or sticky fingers. The sweet and salty flavor combo of crunchy grahams, fluffy marshmallows, and sweet chocolate chips can’t be beat.
Ingredients Needed for Walking S’mores
Truly, all you need for walking s’mores are the same ingredients you’d need for classic s’mores!
We just want each ingredient to be smaller in size – think hand-sized.
All of these ingredients can be found easily at any grocery store, and I’ve provided many swaps and flavor options both here and further down in this post.
- Graham Crackers – I like to allocate one full graham cracker sheet per bag, broken into their four smaller rectangles. However, there’s more than one way to get that golden grahams flavor. You could also split up a bag of teddy grahams or a handful of a graham cracker cereal.
- Mini Marshmallows – Miniature marshmallows are the perfect size for a good snack mix.
- Chocolate Chips – Milk chocolate chips are going to take the place of our melted chocolate. You could also use squares of Hershey’s chocolate bars, if you break them down into their smallest pieces.
How to Make these S’mores Bites Bags
Making these s’mores treats is the easiest thing ever!
Simply place a small amount of every ingredient in a Ziploc bag, and you’re good to go.
However, because there are many options for each of the ingredients, I wanted to give some tips for how to combine them!
- First, take a moment to prep your pieces for this walking dessert. If you’re using graham crackers, go ahead and break them down into small rectangles. If you’re using Hershey bars, unwrap them and cut them up.
- Depending on your pieces, you can go ahead and fill your Ziploc bags now. Place four graham cracker pieces, a handful of chocolate chips, and a handful of marshmallows into each bag.
- If your pieces are smaller, I suggest that you combine cereal, chocolate chips, and marshmallows together in a large bowl and give them a good stir until well mixed. Then, take a measuring cup or kitchen scoop and distribute the cereal mixture across each Ziploc bag.
- Now you need to store all of these grab-and-go snacks! Be sure the place your cellophane bags in a location that stays at room temperature or cooler, so that those chocolate chips don’t start to melt! *These snack bags do not do well in a hot mini-van – Ask me how I know! ha!
- Are you serving a bowl of S’mores mix on the table at a camping trip or family gathering? Perfect! Stir your bowl and you’re good to go!
S’mores in a Bag Snack Idea: A few ideas for switching these up a bit!
There’s more than one way to make a delicious s’more, and there’s more than one way to make a s’more-in-a-bag!
Here are some flavor and texture twists you can try. There’s really no wrong way to do it!
- Switch up the chocolate! – There are so many options heree! Make your treat bags using dark chocolate chips, semi-sweet chocolate chips, or even white chocolate chips. Pieces of Hershey bars would also work.
- Try different types of chips. – Speaking of different chocolate chips, why stop at chocolate? Add a handful of butterscotch chips or peanut butter chips to your s’more bags!
- Consider a variety of different candies. – Try chocolate candies, like M&Ms! They would be a particularly good choice in warm weather of summer months that would make a melted mess out of chocolate chips. Mini peanut butter cups would also be a lot of fun to add.
- Does your grocery store carry different kinds of marshmallows? – I wouldn’t use large marshmallows for this treat, but they do make flavored miniature marshmallows, and that could be a fun twist.
- How about some different cracker options? – I’ve already mentioned teddy grahams and golden graham cereal above, but you could also use pieces of crispy chocolate chip cookies or mini pretzels. I like to also use the Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal, which is similar to Golden Grahams but adds that delicious cinnamon-sugar sweetness.
- Maybe try a drizzle of something sweet. – I’ve seen some versions of s’mores mix where each of the ingredients were laid out on a large cooking sheet lined with parchment paper and wax paper, and melted chocolate almond bark was drizzled over everything! What a fun way to elevate a delicious snack mix and make it even more special.
Storing Leftover S’mores Mix
Do you really need to worry about how to store S’mores trail mix?
Well, yes and no.
While technically nothing in this snack will spoil and nothing needs refrigerated, marshmallows have a way of making crackers lose their crisp over time.
If you served this great snack as a bowl of trail mix, then either store any leftover snack mix in small bags, turning them into individual portions, or dump the contents of the bowl into any airtight container.

The crackers will keep their crunch for 1-2 days.
After that time, you’ll start to notice them go slightly soft.
Still delicious and still safe!
Just a difference in the original texture. I’ve noticed that teddy grahams tend to hold on to their crunch longer than regular graham crackers – that might be fun to try!
