Why You’ll Enjoy These Turkey Cinnamon Rolls!
- It’s fun and festive! – A perfect start to Thanksgiving morning is a breakfast that looks just like the special bird of the day. It’s a fun way for children to kick off the holiday.
- It’s quick and easy! – To make this easy breakfast recipe, don’t feel like you need to make the cinnamon rolls from scratch, or even fry up your own bacon. I mean, you can, but you’ll already be spending quite a bit of time in the kitchen working on that Thanksgiving menu! Instead, let General Mills or Pillsbury kitchens handle the cinnamon rolls for you. That way, all you need to do is decorate the turkeys!
- It gets the children involved! – Do you ever feel like you’re constantly shooing the kids out of the kitchen as your work on the Thanksgiving dinner? Get the whole family involved in making Thanksgiving breakfast. Fill those buckets up in the morning, before Turkey Day really gets under way. They’ll love putting the tail feathers and turkey faces on their cinnamon rolls!
- It balances savory and sweet! – Many quick breakfasts are heavy on the carbohydrates. And while we need quick carbs to break our overnight fast, we also need protein to keep us satiated. This is particularly true for kids. By pairing a delicious cinnamon roll with the fats and proteins of bacon slices, you can rest assured that your family is well fueled for the busy day ahead.
What You’ll Need To Make Adorable Cinnamon Roll Turkeys
This fun recipe doesn’t require any fanciness!
All you need is four ingredients, and you’ll be able to make a festive breakfast that’s the perfect addition to Thanksgiving morning.
- Cinnamon Rolls – You can’t make cinnamon roll turkeys without cinnamon rolls! I don’t know about you, but I’m usually already tasked with quite the kitchen list on Thanksgiving Day. Instead of using homemade cinnamon rolls, I reach for a can of ready-to-bake ones!
- Bacon Slices – These bacon strips will turn into the tail feathers of your little turkeys! Feel free to use pre-cooked bacon to save yourself some time and trouble.
- Candy Corn – Classic candy corn will serve as the beak of each turkey.
- Candy Eyeballs – These might be a little trickier to find, but they’re pretty common in most grocery stores during the fall season! These are candy-coated chocolate candies colored to look exactly like eyeballs. If you’re not having any luck in your supermarket, check craft stores! They often stock candy eyes with the cake decorating supplies.
How To Make Easy Cinnamon Roll Turkeys
This easy recipe is really just as simple as following the package instructions on the back of the cinnamon rolls can, and then adding the candy faces.
Here’s a walk-through:
- Heat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit, and line a baking sheet with cooking parchment paper. You have enough dishes to do on Thanksgiving!
- Open your can of Pillsbury Grands (or other cinnamon roll of choice) and space them out evenly across the prepared pan. Set icing in a cup filled with warm water, so that it can start to soften.
- Bake cinnamon rolls for approximately 20 minutes, or until golden brown.
- While the cinnamon rolls are baking, cook bacon in the oven, frying pan, or microwave. Whichever your prefer! Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to soak up any excess grease, and then cut each piece of bacon in half.
- Move the cinnamon rolls to a cooling rack to cool off for approximately 5 minutes.
- Snip the corner from the icing packet, and drizzle tops of rolls with the icing.
- Place the cinnamon rolls on serving plates, and get ready to decorate! Begin by tucking three halves of bacon inside the back of each cinnamon roll. Just stick them straight into the roll, pointing up.
- Making the turkey heads by sticking the candy corn nose straight up in the cinnamon roll, and place a pair of candy eyes directly above it.
- Enjoy your Thanksgiving turkey cinnamon rolls while watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade!
Other Toppings To Try
There’s more than one way to decorate a turkey!
If you want to add more details to your cinnamon roll turkey, here are a few other ingredients you can add to your culinary creation.
- Break mini pretzel sticks into smaller pieces, and situate them at the bottom of the cinnamon rolls to create turkey’s feet!
- Add more variety to the turkey feathers by alternating bacon pieces with scrambled eggs! To do this, you’ll still place the bacon into the back of each roll, but laying down flat atop the plate. Add a little bit of space between each of the three bacon pieces, and lay a spoonful of scrambled eggs in each of the spaces, situating it in a narrow line.
- Use a large red sprinkle or cinnamon red-hot candies to add a red wattle next to each of the candy corn beaks!
- Can’t find the candy eyeballs? That’s okay. Just chocolate chips instead.
