We had planned for our rising 9th grader to continue full-time with them and for our rising middle-schooler to go from part-time with LUOA to a full-time student.

However, this summer brought along with it a wind of change, and this coming year, our boys are going to be attending a five-day-a-week Christian school that has been close to our hearts for a long time.

For the last few years, we have been praying about a change like this for our youngest son – but it never felt like the right time. God repeatedly closed doors – and honestly, it was hard to trust as every option we considered seemed to be a Not right now. from the Lord.

At the start of this summer, though, we began to sense our prayers being answered in a different way – and we have spent the last couple of months walking through the admissions process and preparing for this change.

While we all have a realistic understanding of the changes this is going to bring to our day-to-day schedule, we are excited and grateful for the ways we feel God has provided for our family.

We realize this may feel like disappointing news to those of you who follow our family for homeschooling content, but we are hopeful that you will be kind and supportive of this change in our lives.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Will you still be homeschooling your girls? We do plan to continue homeschooling our girls. Our youngest daughter will be homeschooling second-grade and her oldest sister who has special needs works at a variety of different levels, depending on the subject area.

Will you still share about middle-school and high-school homeschool? I am always happy to be a resource in any way that I can be!

Do we still recommend LUOA? Absolutely! It is a fantastic program we will highly recommend to anyone who wants to hear about it. For our oldest son who is an independent, intrinsically motivated teen, it felt like their program was designed just for him. It truly is wonderful and he especially thrived in the program.

Up until this point, our oldest son has not been interested in trying anything different – but this summer, he expressed an interested in attending the school, and we allowed him to choose.

Why not just do a co-op? We have some amazing co-ops in our area, but as we’ve walked through different stages in our homeschooling, that has never felt like the best option for our family as a whole.

What school will they be attending? For those of you we know personally, we are happy to share about the amazing Christian schools we are familiar with in our area, but we do not publicly share these kinds of specifics related to our kids.

Would public school ever be an option? Is it a good school? is a post I wrote several years ago that that will give you a glimpse into my philosophy of education.

What will be the biggest change for your family? At this particular school, the length of the school day will not be much longer than what my boys have been used to with their LUOA classes, additional activities/classes, etc. However, it IS going to impact the time of year our family takes various trips, etc. – but we knew that would part of saying Yes to this option and we plan to adjust accordingly.

Our acceptance to this school is very recent news, and we are happy to add to this FAQ area in the coming days.

Love,

Elizabeth & Family

  1. After homeschooling for 3 years, we decided to put our daughter in a Christian School for 7th,8th and 9th grade and it was such a blessing to our family. Last year, we went back to homeschooling and plan to finish her out there. You have to prayerfully do what fits your family and we’re grateful to have the freedom to do so!
